ABOUT
About Travel The Four Corners
Travel The Four Corners is a travel website for curious readers who want more than a list of places to go. It is for travelers who care about history, culture, landscapes, architecture, books, and the forces that shape the places we visit.
The phrase “Travel With Insight” captures the way this site approaches places, stories, books, and journeys. Rather than chasing every trend or destination, Travel The Four Corners looks for the deeper context behind a place. Why does this city feel the way it does? What history shaped this landscape? What can an old postcard, a half-remembered childhood journey, a border crossing, a book, or a local guide reveal about how we see the world?
Here you will find reflective travelogues, historical essays, book reviews, destination commentary, and practical travel resources — all written for readers who enjoy thoughtful, informed travel writing.
ABOUT THE WRITER
Hi, I'm Julia.
I am a travel writer based in Northern California. My interest in travel began early, shaped by a childhood spent partly in Saudi Arabia and Iran, later years in England and the United States, and a long professional background in journalism, international affairs, and public relations. Those experiences made me interested not only in where we go, but in how places are understood (or misunderstood), remembered, marketed, and changed.
Before launching Travel The Four Corners, I worked as a reporter and editor covering defense and foreign affairs, co-founded a political risk consultancy, and later worked in technology public relations during the early days of online travel, when I was part of the PR team that helped launch Travelocity in the mid-1990s.
ABOUT THE NAME
Why "Travel The Four Corners"?
The name plays on the ancient idea of the “four corners of the earth,” from a time when some cultures imagined the world as flat and having edges. The expression came to mean the farthest reaches of the world, or everywhere, in every direction. For me, the name also reflects a sense of geographic reach and a curiosity about the many ways people encounter the world. Travel is not only about checking destinations off a list. It is about movement across cultures, eras, borders, memories, and points of view.
Travel The Four Corners is for readers who like travel writing with a personal story, a sense of history, and a little more depth –- with a few unexpected detours along the way.
